Forex cashback for beginners

New to this? Here's a plain-language walkthrough of how forex cashback actually works, with a worked example — no jargon assumed.

First, what's a "lot"?

A "lot" is just a unit of trade size in forex. One standard lot is 100,000 units of the base currency (for example, $100,000 worth of USD in a USD/JPY trade). Cashback on this site is always expressed per standard lot — so a smaller trade earns a proportionally smaller amount, and a bigger trade earns more.

What's a "spread", and how do brokers make money?

The "spread" is the small gap between the price you buy at and the price you sell at — it's built into every trade and is how most brokers earn money, separate from any commission they charge. You pay this spread whether or not you use a cashback service; it doesn't change based on anything here.

What's an IB, and where does cashback come from?

An "Introducing Broker" (IB) is a partner that refers clients to a broker. As a thank-you for the referral, the broker shares part of what it earns from your trading with the IB — for every lot you trade, for as long as you keep trading. CB-Dogs is an IB for the brokers listed on this site, and we pass most of that share back to you.

A worked example

Say you trade 10 standard lots a month on XM Standard, where the current rebate rate is 9.0 USDT per lot. That's 90.0 USDT of cashback for the month — and since it's above the 50 USDT fee-free withdrawal threshold, you'd receive the full amount with no network fee.

This example uses the current, provisional rate shown on our brokers page.

Does this cost me anything?

No. Your spread, any commission, and your order execution are exactly the same as opening an account with the broker directly. The cashback comes out of the share the broker was already going to pay a referral partner — we just pass most of it on to you instead of keeping it.

A few conditions to know upfront

  • Positions usually need to stay open for a few minutes (5 minutes on XM) to count for cashback — this stops abuse and doesn't affect normal trading.
  • Linking to our IB code can affect your eligibility for the broker's own deposit bonus or loyalty program — check before you rely on one.
  • Rates marked "provisional" are our current planning figures ahead of a signed IB agreement, and can only move forward, never backward, for volume you've already traded.
