XM Bonus and Cashback: Can You Use Both?

You can hold an XMTrading bonus and earn cashback, but when a bonus supports your margin, IB commission is paid only in proportion to your own funds, and trading on a no-deposit bonus earns none. CB-Dogs pays 60% of the commission actually received, so cashback is reduced or zero in those cases.

Disclosure: CB-Dogs receives an advertising (referral) fee — sometimes called an IB commission — from brokers for accounts opened or linked through us, and returns part of it to you as cashback, the same model used by cashback and points sites. This does not change your trading costs.

Many traders ask whether they can take an XMTrading bonus and still collect cashback. The honest answer is "partly". Bonuses and cashback both come from the same pool, the commission XMTrading pays to the introducer, and XMTrading's public rules reduce that commission when a bonus is involved. This guide explains how, using XMTrading's publicly available partner program terms and its official account-type pages.

Key takeaways

  • XMTrading offers a 13,000 JPY account-opening bonus on all account types, and a deposit bonus on Standard (100%) and Micro (100% up to 500 USD, then 20% up to 10,000 USD). KIWAMI and Zero have no deposit bonus. Terms apply.
  • When a bonus supports the required margin, the IB commission is paid in proportion to the share of your own funds in that margin.
  • Trading on a no-deposit bonus, and profits from it, earns no IB commission unless you deposit and trade with your own funds.
  • CB-Dogs pays 60% of the IB commission XMTrading actually pays, so cashback is reduced or zero on bonus-supported trades.
  • Choosing KIWAMI or Zero means no deposit bonus, so no bonus-related reduction applies. See the rate table for those account types, which are being confirmed.

Which XMTrading bonuses exist

According to XMTrading's account pages:

Account typeAccount-opening bonusDeposit bonus
Standard13,000 JPY100%
Micro13,000 JPY100% up to 500 USD, then 20% up to 10,000 USD
KIWAMI13,000 JPYNone
Zero13,000 JPYNone

The account-opening bonus needs no deposit. All of these carry conditions, so read XMTrading's current bonus terms. For the difference between the account types, see XM account types compared and our KIWAMI account review.

How a bonus affects IB commission

XMTrading's public partner terms say that when the required margin is supported by a granted bonus, the commission is calculated in proportion to the percentage of the client's own funds in the required margin.

The terms give this example: a client deposits 100 EUR and receives a 100% bonus. Trading 1 lot of EURUSD at 500:1 leverage needs 200 EUR of margin. The client's own funds are 100 EUR, which is 50% of the required margin, so the introducer receives 50% of the commission.

For you, the effect is the same proportion. CB-Dogs pays 60% of the commission XMTrading actually pays. If XMTrading pays only half the commission on a trade, your cashback on that trade is 60% of that smaller amount. In the example, your cashback is half of what it would be without the bonus. We give no cashback figures here; see the rate table for current rates:

Provisional rate

Whether a given trade counts as supported by bonus depends on XMTrading's calculation on your account, not on a rule of thumb. Treat the example as a direction, not a forecast.

No-deposit bonus trading earns nothing

The terms also exclude trading on a no-deposit trading bonus, and profits from it, unless the client deposits and trades with own funds. In practice: if you only trade the 13,000 JPY account-opening bonus, that trading produces no IB commission and therefore no cashback. After you deposit and trade with your own funds, those trades are eligible. For other exclusions such as trades of 5 minutes or less and Close By, see XM trades excluded from cashback.

What this means for your choice

Cashback and bonus are not the same kind of benefit. Cashback is a rebate on the volume you trade. A bonus is extra trading credit with conditions. Our guide forex rebate vs deposit bonus compares the two in general. For XMTrading specifically:

  • Taking a deposit bonus (Standard or Micro): you gain credit, but the share of margin supported by bonus lowers the IB commission and your cashback in proportion.
  • Taking only your own funds: commission is on your own margin, so cashback is on the full basis.
  • KIWAMI or Zero: there is no deposit bonus, so there is no reduction on that account. Rates for these account types are being confirmed; see the rate table above rather than assuming a figure.
  • Account-opening bonus only: no cashback until you deposit and trade your own funds.

The better choice depends on your trading style and size. A trader with a small account who values extra credit may prefer a bonus; a high-volume trader who counts every cost may prefer full cashback. This is a trade-off for you to judge, and neither is guaranteed to be better.

Check how bonus credit is treated on withdrawal

Bonus credit follows XMTrading's own conditions. Check XMTrading's bonus terms for how credit is treated on withdrawal before you take one, because that affects how much of your balance you can actually take out. We do not summarise those conditions here.

Practical steps

  1. Decide whether you want a deposit bonus. If you do, expect lower cashback on bonus-supported trades.
  2. If you want the full cashback basis, trade with your own funds or choose an account type without a deposit bonus.
  3. Read XMTrading's bonus terms, including withdrawal treatment.
  4. Open the account through the CB-Dogs link and link it in your member area, then check the current rates on the XM broker page.

FAQ

Yes, but the IB commission is reduced in proportion when a bonus supports your margin, and CB-Dogs pays 60% of the commission actually received, so your cashback is reduced on those trades.
