How to Change Your XM Account Type (And Keep Your Cashback)
XMTrading does not let you change the type of an existing account (for example Standard to KIWAMI). The usual route is to open an additional account of the new type, optionally move funds across, and submit the new account number to CB-Dogs so it is linked for cashback.

Disclosure: CB-Dogs receives an advertising (referral) fee — sometimes called an IB commission — from brokers for accounts opened or linked through us, and returns part of it to you as cashback, the same model used by cashback and points sites. This does not change your trading costs.

You opened an XMTrading account, and now you want a different type: perhaps Zero for tighter spreads, or KIWAMI for swap-free gold. This guide explains what is and is not possible, how the switch works in practice, and what to do so the new account earns CB-Dogs cashback.
Key takeaways
- XM's own guide states that the type of an existing account cannot be changed; you open an additional account of the type you want.
- XMTrading allows up to 10 live accounts with the same personal details, opened from the XMTrading Portal or the XMTD TraderPro app.
- Bonuses differ by type: KIWAMI and Zero have no deposit bonus, so check before moving funds from an account that holds bonus credit.
- For cashback, the new account must sit under CB-Dogs' partner account and be submitted at Trading accounts in your CB-Dogs profile. An account that is not under our partner account cannot be linked.
- Your old account can stay open; only the linked account earns cashback.
The short answer: you cannot convert, you add
XM's official account-type guide says plainly that the account type of an existing account cannot be changed. If you hold a Standard account and want KIWAMI, Zero or Micro, you open an additional live account of that type. Your original account is not altered, and you can keep using it.
Per XMTrading's help centre, you can have up to 10 live accounts (and up to 5 demo accounts) at the same time with the same personal details. Additional accounts are opened from the XMTrading Portal or the XMTD TraderPro app.
Step by step
- Decide the type first. Compare them in XM account types compared. If you are unsure, the best XM account for beginners is a good starting point, and the KIWAMI review and Zero review cover the two types people most often switch to.
- Open the account through the CB-Dogs link. This step decides whether the account earns cashback. Log out of XM (or use a private window), click the XMTrading button on our XM broker page, log in to your existing XMTrading profile from the page that opens (do not register a new one), then add a live account in the Portal or the app. Choose the platform, the account type, the base currency and the leverage.
- Complete any verification XM asks for. XM may reuse the documents you already provided or ask for new ones.
- Note the new account number. XM emails the MT4/MT5 login details. That trading account number is what you submit, not your XM profile ID.
- Submit it to CB-Dogs. Log in, open Trading accounts, choose XM, the new account type and the account number, and submit. Confirmation usually arrives within 24 hours (at most 2 business days).
- Move funds if you want to. See the next section.

Moving funds between your own accounts
Many traders move their balance from the old account to the new one. Whether and how XM supports transfers between your own accounts is decided by XM, so check the options in the Portal or app, and any fees, before you move money.
Two practical points:
- Bonus credit. If the old account holds a deposit bonus or other credit, moving funds out may affect it. Read XM's bonus terms before transferring, and see XM bonus and cashback.
- Open positions. Close or plan around open trades first, and do not move funds that are needed as margin.
How the types differ on bonuses and costs
Per XMTrading's official account pages, the account-opening bonus is offered on all four types, while the deposit bonus is offered on Standard and Micro but not on KIWAMI or Zero. Terms apply. Zero charges a commission per trade, and KIWAMI has tighter minimum spreads without commission. If you currently use a deposit bonus, switching to KIWAMI or Zero means giving that up for the new account.
The cashback angle
Cashback is 60% of the IB commission XMTrading actually pays for the account, and that commission depends on the account type. Read the current rates from our table rather than from a number in an article:
| Account type | Rebate / lot (USDT) |
|---|---|
| StandardSpread-based account, no commission. | 1.8 |
| MicroShown per micro lot (1,000 units), which is 1/100 of a standard lot, so the amount is 1/100 of the Standard amount. | 0.018(1 micro lot = 1,000 units) |
| KiwamiXM's tightened-spread account tier available in select regions. Our rebate for this account type is still being confirmed with XM and will be added here. | Rate to be confirmed |
| ZeroCommission-based account. Rebate is paid in addition to the raw spread, and the commission you pay is unaffected. Our rebate for this account type is still being confirmed with XM and will be added here. | Rate to be confirmed |
Provisional rate
The usual rules follow you to the new account: only the linked account earns cashback, and some trades are excluded (for example trades closed within 5 minutes). See trades excluded from XM cashback. Cashback accrues per lot traded, whatever the profit or loss.
Frequently asked questions
No. XM's official guide says the account type cannot be changed after opening. You open an additional KIWAMI account and, if you wish, move funds to it.
