XM Verification Documents: What XMTrading Asks For and How to Avoid Rejection
XMTrading requires two documents: a colour copy of a government-issued photo ID and a proof of address dated within the past 3 months, plus a selfie taken during verification. Your profile details must match the documents, and blurry images, expired IDs or old address documents are the usual causes of rejection.

Disclosure: CB-Dogs receives an advertising (referral) fee — sometimes called an IB commission — from brokers for accounts opened or linked through us, and returns part of it to you as cashback, the same model used by cashback and points sites. This does not change your trading costs.

If you are opening an XMTrading account from outside Japan, verification (KYC) is the step that decides how fast you can start. This guide covers what XMTrading asks for, how to upload it, what to expect on review time, why submissions get rejected, and how verification connects to withdrawals and to CB-Dogs cashback. For the full sign-up order, see how to open an XM account and link cashback.
Key takeaways
- XMTrading requires only two documents: a colour copy of a government-issued photo ID (passport, driver's licence or ID card) and a proof of address dated within the past 3 months. A selfie is also taken as part of verification.
- The ID must show your full name, issue date, expiry date, date of birth, and place of birth or taxpayer number, plus the holder's signature.
- Proof of address can be a recent utility bill (electricity, gas, water, phone, internet, cable TV) or a bank statement.
- XMTrading does not publish a fixed review time. Reviews are often completed the same day, but mismatched details can take longer.
- For cashback, verification is separate from linking: the account must be opened through the CB-Dogs link and then linked in your CB-Dogs member area. CB-Dogs is also not open to residents of excluded countries.
What XMTrading asks for
XMTrading states that only two documents are required.
1. Proof of identity (POI). A colour copy of a government-issued document: a passport, driver's licence or ID card. It must show:
- your full name
- the issue date and the expiry date
- your date of birth
- your place of birth or taxpayer number
- the holder's signature
A selfie is also taken as part of the verification (see the steps below).
2. Proof of address (POR). A recent utility bill (electricity, gas, water, phone, internet or cable TV) or a bank statement, dated within the past 3 months.
Name, date of birth and address must match
The details you enter in your profile have to agree with the documents you upload. Check these before you submit:
- Name: spell it as it appears on the ID (same order, same characters). A nickname, a shortened name or a different transliteration is a mismatch.
- Date of birth: the same on the profile and the ID.
- Address: the profile address and the proof-of-address document should say the same thing. If your country writes addresses in a different order or script, copy the document's version.
- Country of residence: it must be where you actually live. It also decides whether CB-Dogs can accept you (see below).
How to upload your documents
The official steps in the XMTrading Portal or the XMTD TraderPro app are:
- Log in to the XMTrading Portal or the app and click Verify account.
- Complete phone number verification.
- Enter your profile information and your investor profile information.
- Go through document verification:
- a) Click Start verification.
- b) Take a live photo of your ID with the camera interface, or upload a copy.
- c) Take a selfie with the camera interface.
- d) Upload your proof of address in its own section.
Alternatively, you can go to Profile > Settings > Documents > Upload documents.
XMTrading's own order for getting started is: verify your profile (profile details, investor information and documents), then deposit, then download the platform and trade.
Use colour photos or scans with all four corners visible, no glare, nothing covered, and every line of text readable.
How long review takes
XMTrading does not publish a fixed review time. Reviews are often completed the same day, but mismatches can take longer. Check the Portal and your email (including spam) for any request for a corrected document, and contact XMTrading support if you are waiting well beyond a business day.
Common rejection reasons and fixes
These are the typical causes, based on the requirements above. XMTrading's help centre does not publish a rejection list, so treat the table as practical guidance.
| Likely reason | Fix |
|---|---|
| Blurry, cropped or dark image | Retake in good light on a flat surface with all edges visible |
| Expired ID | Use a current passport, licence or ID card |
| ID missing required details (for example signature or place of birth) | Use a document that shows everything listed above |
| Proof of address older than 3 months | Use a bill or statement dated within the past 3 months |
| Name or address differs from your profile | Correct the profile to match the document, or use a document that matches |
| Document not in your name | Use a bill or bank statement in your own name |
| Black-and-white copy, screenshot or edited image | Upload an original colour photo or scan |
If you are rejected, read the message carefully, fix that one point and resubmit. Uploading the same file again does not help.
Why verification matters beyond opening the account
- You verify before you deposit. XMTrading's own order is verification first, then deposit and trading, so do it right after you register.
- Withdrawals. Brokers generally pay out only to verified clients, and the name on a withdrawal method usually has to match the verified name. See XM withdrawal: methods, times and fees for how withdrawals work after you are verified.
- A consistent profile helps later. If you add accounts or change details, a verified profile that matches your documents avoids repeat checks.
Verification and CB-Dogs cashback
Verification and cashback tracking are two separate things, and you need both.
- Register with CB-Dogs, then open your XMTrading account through our link. An account opened directly or through another partner cannot be attached to CB-Dogs afterwards.
- Complete XMTrading verification as above.
- Link your trading account number in the CB-Dogs member area so we can match XMTrading's reports to you. Your cashback is 60% of the IB commission on your linked account, and what applies for your account type is always shown on the XM broker page.
