How to Switch Forex Cashback Provider: IB Change vs New Account

To switch forex cashback provider you must change which IB (partner) your trading account is attributed to. Either ask the broker for a partner change, which Exness offers, or open an additional account through the new provider's link, the usual route at XM. Collect your old provider's pending cashback first.

Disclosure: CB-Dogs receives an advertising (referral) fee — sometimes called an IB commission — from brokers for accounts opened or linked through us, and returns part of it to you as cashback, the same model used by cashback and points sites. This does not change your trading costs.

You may want to change cashback providers for plenty of reasons: a payout method that does not suit you, rules that are hard to follow, slow support, or simply a better offer. The catch is that signing up with a new provider does not move your existing trading account. This guide explains why, the two ways to switch, what to know about XMTrading and Exness specifically, and what to settle with your old provider before you go.

Key takeaways

  • Cashback goes to whichever IB (partner) your broker account is attributed to. Registering on a new cashback site does not change that.
  • There are two ways to switch: ask the broker to change the partner on your existing account, or open an additional account through the new provider's link.
  • Exness offers a partner change request on an existing account. At XM, an existing account generally cannot be moved, so the usual route is an additional account.
  • Trades made before the switch are settled by the old provider. Trades after the switch count for the new one. The same trade is never paid twice.
  • Withdraw your old provider's balance first, and check minimums and expiry rules before you close anything.

Why an account is tied to one IB

A broker pays an advertising fee, called an IB commission, to the partner that introduced each client. A cashback provider is such a partner and shares part of the fee with you. For that to work, the broker records, account by account, which partner the account belongs to. That record is normally set when the account is opened, through the partner's link or code.

So the cashback on a given account always comes from the provider recorded against it. A new provider only earns commission, and can only pay you cashback, on accounts recorded under its own partner relationship. That is why the switch happens at the broker, not on the cashback site. For the underlying mechanics, see how forex rebates work.

The two ways to switch

Option 1: ask the broker for a partner change

Some brokers let a client request that an existing account be attributed to a different partner. Your account number, balance and history stay as they are, and only the partner record changes. It is usually requested through the broker's client area or support, may need a verified profile, and the broker decides whether to approve it. Approval can take days, and a change applies only to trading after it takes effect.

If the broker will not move an existing account, the practical alternative is to open a new live account using the new provider's link, then trade on that account. You keep the old account and typically do not have to verify your identity from scratch, but you do have to move funds across and decide what to do with any open positions. Opening the account the wrong way can attach it to your old partner again (see the XM section below).

XMTrading: usually an additional account

XM does not generally move an existing account to a different partner. If your account was opened directly, or through another provider's link, it stays under that partner. CB-Dogs cannot change that assignment on its side either. The workaround is an additional live account under your existing verified XM profile, opened so that XM records the CB-Dogs partner link. XM's own guides describe opening additional accounts from the Members Area; whether a new account is recorded under your new link, rather than your old one, depends on how you reach XM, so follow our additional XM account guide step by step and ask XM support if anything on screen is unclear.

Two things to know at XMTrading:

  • XM limits how many accounts one person can hold, and that limit is set by XM. If you have many unused accounts, check your Members Area before planning a new one.
  • The XMTrading account types available are Standard, Micro, Zero and KIWAMI. A new account is a chance to re-pick the type that suits your trading. Current rebates by type are below.
Account typeRebate / lot (USDT)
StandardSpread-based account, no commission.9.0
MicroRebate is calculated per 100,000 units of micro-lot volume (i.e. the same per-lot rate as Standard, scaled to micro-lot size).9.0
KiwamiXM's tightened-spread account tier available in select regions.6.0
ZeroCommission-based account. Rebate is paid in addition to the raw spread — commission you pay is unaffected.4.5

Exness: partner change request

Exness is different. A client can request a partner change on an existing account, normally from the Personal Area with a confirmation code sent to the registered email or phone, and the change is reported to take roughly three business days. The account number, balance and trading conditions stay the same, and the change applies only to trading after it is processed. Details and caveats are in our guide to the Exness partner change. Exness sets its own rules and timelines, so follow the instructions shown in your Personal Area and contact Exness support if the option is not visible. Exness rebates per lot are estimates that vary with the account type and spread, and actual cashback equals the actual commission times the cashback share, as the table below shows.

Account typeRebate / lot (USDT)
StandardNo separate commission — Exness pays partners a share of the spread. The estimate below is for EURUSD at our current partner rank; GBPUSD and gold (XAUUSD) typically pay more per lot, tighter-spread pairs less. Rates rise automatically as our trading volume with Exness grows.0.96
ProNo separate commission — Exness pays partners a share of the spread, at a lower percentage than Standard. We don't yet have a reliable per-instrument estimate for this account type, so no figure is shown; your cashback is still 60% of the actual commission Exness pays us.0.0
ZeroCommission-based account with near-zero raw spreads. The estimate below is for EURUSD at our current partner rank; other instruments vary. Cashback is paid in addition to the raw spread and does not affect the commission you pay Exness.0.25
Raw SpreadCommission-based account with raw interbank spreads. Exness pays partners a fixed amount per lot that varies by instrument; we don't yet have a reliable figure to show, so no estimate is listed — your cashback is still 60% of the actual commission Exness pays us.0.0

Opening a new Exness account through the new link is also possible and can be simpler for an account you barely use. See how to open an Exness account and link cashback.

Checklist before you switch

Linking the new account to CB-Dogs

Once the account sits under CB-Dogs, either through a partner change or a new account opened via our link, tell us which account it is.

  1. Register with CB-Dogs. First confirm in the eligibility rules that your country of residence is accepted.
  2. Submit your account number on the linked accounts page of your member area.
  3. Once the link is confirmed, trades on that account count toward your cashback.

Cashback at CB-Dogs is 60% of the IB commission, paid in USDT on the TRC20 network only. The minimum withdrawal is 10 USDT, a withdrawal of 50 USDT or more is free, and below 50 USDT a 3 USDT fee applies. Cashback is credited after the broker has paid CB-Dogs and is withdrawable after a confirmation period, so the time from a trade to a payout takes a few weeks. If you want to know what your volume could earn, try the calculator. To compare providers before you commit, see how to evaluate a forex cashback program.

No. Cashback depends on which partner your broker account is attributed to. Registering on a new site does not change that. You need a partner change on the existing account, if the broker offers one, or an additional account opened through the new provider's link.

Summary

To switch forex cashback provider, change the partner recorded on your broker account instead of just signing up elsewhere: request a partner change where the broker offers one, as Exness does, or open an additional account through the new link, as is usual at XM. Collect your old provider's balance first, watch bonuses and open positions, and then link the new account.

Risk warning: forex and CFD trading carries a high risk of losing money. Cashback does not offset trading losses. Nothing here is investment advice.
